Nordstrom Anniversary Presale!

July marks one of my favorite sales, the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. It’s infamous in the shopping world, and features fall fashions on sale before the season starts. The official sale starts on July 20th (ends August 5th), but presale is available for Nordstrom cardholders.

This year was the first year that shopping was available online for cardholders before the start of the sale, but I decided to do everything in person. I made an appointment with my personal shopper for this afternoon, sent her a list of everything I liked online, and she also pulled some great stuff for me.

My splurge of the sale was a fabulous black leather jacket. I had selected this jacket online to try on:

It was nice in person, but nothing special. Leslie pulled this incredible Veda leather jacket for me:

I’ve always wanted a leather jacket, and this is truly one of those fabulous pieces that I’ll be able to wear again and again. She paired the jacket with a lace top and a houndstooth scarf.

Next up, blazers and sweaters. I love a great blazer (I may or may not have an obsession), and this Frenchi blazer was a perfect addition to my blazer collection. The purple is a brownish purple in person, and will be perfect to pair with jeans for work.

Halogen is the Nordstrom house brand, and they make some fabulous items. I picked up this “girlfriend” cardigan in purple nectar, which is more of an aubergine. The fit is fabulous, I may even pick up another color or two. Leslie picked up this sweater for me to try on leggings with, and I ended up loving it. It’s the perfect tunic, super comfortable, but fitted enough to not look bulky.

I hadn’t picked out any jeans to try on, but ended up finding two perfect pairs! I tried on the Hue leggings and didn’t love them, but Leslie pulled these Citizen jeggings. They hold everything in, and work as a perfect black skinny jean but also as leggings with a tunic and boots. She also grabbed these Joe’s skinny ankle jeans. They’re the perfect skinny jean length for my short self!

Finally, I needed a replacement skirt for my pink J Crew skirt which sadly ripped. I’d been eyeing the Halogen seamed pencil skirt for awhile. Leslie recommended the petite length, which was the ideal length. It fit like a glove, and hit just above the knee. Even though it’s not hot pink, it’s the perfect color for a transition into fall.

The “essentials” also go on sale, so I grabbed 4 pairs of hanky panky’s (2 nude, 2 black) and my favorite Betsey Johnson bra and underwear set in blue and black.

Finally, shoes and accessories. I tried on a few pairs of heels and boots, but ended up sticking with my tried and true love of Cole Haan. I’ve been looking for a pair of leather driving moccasins for some time, and I loved the print and stitching on these Cole Haan Air Sadies. Note, I did size down one size from my regular size in Cole Haans. Next were a pair of Air Monica wedges. They’re the perfect shoe for work. Low enough of a wedge that they’re easy to walk in, extremely comfortable, and I love the two-tone color scheme.

I eventually want to get a pair of diamond or moissanite studs, but these cubic zirconia studs are the perfect substitute. I was eyeing this leather studded bracelet online, but unfortunately they were sold out in store so I’ll be getting it mailed to me.

There were a few pieces that I loved that didn’t make the cut. This boucle biker jacket came in both pink and grey, and was adorable on.

These Vince Camuto wide leg pants were very flattering, and would look perfect with sky-high heels. They paired perfectly with this polka dot blouse.

This French Connection sheath dress fit like a glove, and could easily be dressed up or down. And these Pedro Garcia booties were incredible. I’m still tempted to pick them up in either black or raisin (I tried on the black).

I almost grabbed the Halogen pencil skirt in two additional colors, bright blue and grey/black colorblock.

This tweed jacket was quite lightweight, and paired really well with these AG slim boot jeans.

This bow pocket cardigan was ridiculously cute. I love the grey and the black, would be perfect paired with jeans or with pencil skirts.

My Nordstrom Personal Stylist Experience

IMG_2427

I’ve been a longtime Nordstrom shopper. When I was really young, my favorite adventure with my mom used to be going shopping at Nordstrom and then to lunch at the café, I got my first Nordstrom credit card at age 19, and it’s still one of my favorite stores.

Amazingly, I’d never tried their (highly recommended) personal shopping service until this weekend. Needless to say, I don’t think I’ll be going back to much “regular shopping” there! It’s definitely the way to shop. I first spoke with the head of their personal stylist department to find the perfect match for who I’d be working with.

Leslie got in touch with me right away after the appointment was scheduled and asked a bunch of question around my style, what I was in search of, how happy I was with my current wardrobe, and finally, my sizes. I was also able to point her in the direction of this blog to give her a good idea of what I like to wear, what typically looks good on me, and what I don’t have.

My Saturday shopping attire consisted of a Brandy Melville light pink shirt, white tank underneath, skinny jeans, and my Bailey Button Uggs in chocolate. It was pretty chilly, so I also wore my favorite Lululemon Scuba hoodie.

When I arrived, she had the spacious dressing room full of outfits and combinations. I dove right in, started trying things on, and she would also adjust sizes depending on how certain things were fitting. My camera was low on batteries, so unfortunately I was only able to grab a few pictures.

I first tried on my favorite item of the day, a Heed striped blazer. I paired it with both a chambray shirt, and a coral tank. I really liked both of the shirts, but will be waiting until they go on sale to decide to purchase them, since I actually have similar items already (this is another stylist benefit, Leslie said that she’ll get in touch with me when/if they do!).

Next, I paired a few outfits with a navy blazer. Since I already have a navy blazer with gold buttons I passed on the blazer itself, but the two tops underneath it were adorable. I paired it with both a brown top, and green draped top (can’t find either online).

We then branched into prints. I’ve been on the hunt for a striped top for quite some time, and love the one she found for me. The back is just adorable. She also pulled this polka dot top, which was super cute paired over a simple black tank. I paired the printed tops and the sweaters with this buttery pair of boyfriend jeans from Rich & Skinny.

Finally, we finished off with two sweaters. This striped cropped sweater was adorable both over chambray, but also over a simple white camisole. And I love the simplicity and comfort of this white sweater (also could be worn over chambray or over a tank).

We finished off with two pairs of shoes. These adorable pink capped toe Jessica Simpson flats and a simple low pair of Vince Camuto patent nude peep-toes (shown in the picture above).

A fun-filled Saturday

Started off the day with a facial appointment, then had a pretty filled day of rehearsal, lunch and shopping with one of my girlfriends, and then finally hanging out at home with the pup, drinking wine and watching Dear John while Nick went to a beer tasting event with his buddies. Sometimes it’s nice to not have any expectations for the day, and just take it as it comes.

IMG_1929

I didn’t shower until I was at the spa, so I had to quickly take a picture in the spa’s locker room. I paired my elephant tee from with a barely mint green tank (both Brandy Melville), my Joe’s skinny jeans, a slightly off-white boyfriend cardigan from AE Outfitters, and my Uggs.

Uggs: Bailey Button in Chocolate from Nordstrom

We went to lunch at Chantanee. I love Thai food, because most of it is already gluten free, and it’s quite delicious. I had their fried spring rolls (wrapped in rice paper), and lamb curry.

IMG_1931IMG_1932

After lunch, we stopped into Anthropologie. I really wanted to try on the infamous Pieced Column Dress, and unfortunately, I did love it! I also found a super cute dress on sale (no longer on the website), and a great coral top. I tried on two other tops, but they were a no-go, and a few things that weren’t even worth snapping a picture of.

Other dress, should be really cute with boots for the winter, and nude shoes for the spring/summer. A great little work piece.

IMG_1938

Splendid tried and true top (also called the pocket top). The coral color (which I purchased), and the green color (which my girlfriend picked up) weren’t available online. It’s more coral in person than it’s showing up here.

IMG_1935IMG_1936

Didn’t purchase: Complementary Hewn Top. There was a bit too much going on here, and I felt like it was a bit overpowering.

IMG_1937 HewnTop

I liked the idea of this top, but it was way too much cleavage for work, and a cami wouldn’t have looked right underneath it.
